Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Ex-MLA Council has urged the state government to revise the pension, medical allowance and other benefits provided to former legislators, citing rising living and healthcare costs.
The association submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, seeking an increase in the financial benefits available to former MLAs.
Rising Medical Costs a Concern
The council said several former legislators are facing age-related health problems and require regular medical treatment. With medical expenses increasing, many former MLAs are reportedly struggling to meet the cost of healthcare.
Benefits Unchanged Since 2017
The association pointed out that the Centre and state governments regularly increase dearness allowance and other benefits for employees and pensioners in response to rising prices.
However, according to the council, former legislators in Odisha have been receiving a consolidated amount since January 1, 2017, without a corresponding revision.
Ex-MLAs Seek Implementation of Advisory Committee Recommendations
The association has requested Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to implement the recommendations of the Odisha Assembly Advisory Committee and increase the pension, medical allowance and other benefits for former legislators.
The council said the revision would help former MLAs cope with rising healthcare and day-to-day expenses.
