Tehran: Funeral ceremonies for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei reportedly began in Tehran on Saturday, drawing thousands of mourners who gathered to pay their respects.
According to the report, Khamenei’s coffin, draped in the flag of the Islamic Republic and topped with his signature black turban, was brought into Tehran’s Grand Mosalla complex. The coffins of several deceased family members were also displayed alongside it, including that of his 14-month-old granddaughter.

The report states that Khamenei’s remains arrived in Tehran on Friday ahead of six days of public mourning ceremonies planned across Iran and Iraq. Authorities reportedly expect millions of people to participate in the events over the coming days.
Large crowds gathered at the venue, carrying banners and chanting slogans. Senior Iranian political and military leaders were seen paying their respects, with several visibly emotional during the ceremonies.
Among the foreign representatives attending the event were Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, representing India.
According to the reported schedule, the funeral procession will continue in Tehran until Monday before moving to the religious city of Qom. Subsequent ceremonies are planned in several holy cities in Iraq before the final burial in Mashhad, Khamenei’s hometown in northeastern Iran.
The funeral events are being closely watched across the region, given Iran’s significant political and religious influence in the Middle East.
