Bhubaneswar: A nurse was found dead in a rented house in the Damana area of Bhubaneswar, with police suspecting that prolonged mental harassment and alleged blackmail may have driven her to take the extreme step.
The deceased has been identified as Sasmita, a native of Balangir district who was working in Bhubaneswar. According to police, she had been living in a live-in relationship with Mahesh Nath after relocating to the state capital.
Following the recovery of the body, police initially detained Mahesh for questioning and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
During the course of the probe, investigators reportedly came across evidence indicating the possible involvement of Sasmita’s former boyfriend, Paramananda, who is also from Balangir.
Police suspect that Paramananda had allegedly been mentally harassing and blackmailing Sasmita after learning about her relationship with Mahesh. Investigators believe the alleged harassment may have intensified in the days leading up to the incident.
As part of the investigation, police are examining call records, audio recordings and other digital evidence recovered from the deceased’s mobile phone to determine the sequence of events and establish any possible role played by those connected to the case.
Both Mahesh Nath and Paramananda have been detained for questioning.
The Chandrasekharpur Police have registered an unnatural death case and launched a detailed investigation. Officials said all angles are being examined and further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
