Bhubaneswar: The principal of a degree college in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district has been arrested on allegations of inappropriate behaviour and harassment of women faculty members and staff.
The accused, Dayanidhi Routray, principal of Swami Arupananda Degree College, was arrested by the Raghunathpur Police after multiple women employees lodged a complaint against him. He was later produced before a local court.
Taking serious note of the allegations, the Jagatsinghpur district administration placed the principal under suspension pending further investigation.
According to the complaint, Routray allegedly made obscene and derogatory remarks towards women employees and subjected several faculty members and staff to repeated harassment at the college.
Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations and are recording the statements of the complainants. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The incident has sparked concern over workplace safety and the need for a secure and respectful environment for women in educational institutions.
