Cuttack: The post-mortem examination of Chauliaganj Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Beauty Mohanty, who was found dead at her government quarters in Cuttack, has confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging, according to Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, the DCP said the autopsy report did not reveal any external injury marks on Mohanty’s body and, at present, investigators have found no evidence indicating foul play. However, he emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that police will await the viscera examination report and expert opinions before arriving at any final conclusions.
“We have received the post-mortem report, which confirms death due to asphyxia caused by hanging. No external injuries have been found on the body, and there is no indication of foul play so far. Nevertheless, the investigation will continue and all aspects will be thoroughly examined,” Dnyandeo said.
As part of the investigation, police are questioning family members, colleagues from Chauliaganj police station, and other individuals who were in contact with Mohanty in recent days. Investigators are attempting to reconstruct the circumstances leading up to her death.
The police are also conducting an extensive examination of her digital footprint. Mohanty’s mobile phones, which were found locked, have been sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Bhubaneswar for analysis. Officials expect forensic experts to retrieve and examine data from the devices within the next few days.
In addition to mobile phone records, investigators are reviewing WhatsApp chats, social media interactions, laptop data, and banking transactions. Authorities also plan to identify and verify the person with whom Mohanty reportedly had her last phone conversation.
According to the DCP, the probe is being carried out by a special investigation team comprising senior police officers, including two Inspectors-in-Charge, an officer of Superintendent of Police rank, and an Additional DCP. No individual has been detained or arrested in connection with the case so far.
Beauty Mohanty had assumed charge as the IIC of Chauliaganj police station approximately two months ago following her transfer. She was found hanging in her government quarters on the morning of July 4.
Police officials said all angles are being examined and the investigation will continue until the exact circumstances surrounding her death are fully established.
