Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal continued to trigger widespread rainfall across Odisha, with several districts witnessing heavy to extremely heavy showers over the last 24 hours. Khajuripada in Kandhamal district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 276 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Several other locations also reported exceptionally high rainfall. Tureikela in Balangir district received 264 mm, while Phulbani recorded 224.4 mm. Other areas in Kandhamal district that experienced intense rainfall included Phiringia (223.6 mm), G. Udayagiri (220 mm), Tikabali (217 mm), Baliguda (210 mm), and Chakapad (204.6 mm). Titilagarh in Balangir district recorded 205.4 mm of rainfall.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the IMD has issued a Red Warning for Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Nuapada districts on Sunday, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at one or two locations.
An Orange Warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sonepur, Balangir, and Kalahandi districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.
Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning has been sounded for Balasore, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts, with forecasts of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall, and follow weather advisories issued by local administrations. The state government and disaster management agencies are closely monitoring the situation as rainfall activity is expected to continue over the next 24 hours.
